Local nurses recognized for National Nurse Week

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is recognizing and celebrating all nurses during National Nurses Week, especially the more than 4,100 dedicated nurses who work for Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist.

The American Nurses Association officially began recognizing this week in 1990, concluding the week on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the woman affectionately known as the founder of modern nursing who helped revolutionize the field. Every year, Atrium Health pauses to honor the nurses who give so much to care for their patients, day in and day out. Their service is invaluable to the health care field and to our communities.

“More than 4,000 nurses strong, we have a diverse, experienced and compassionate workforce dedicated to the highest quality of patient- and family-centered care,” said Deb Harding, vice president and market chief nurse executive at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. “I am deeply grateful for our nurses. They demonstrate a passion to care that is evident in the way they touch countless lives in our hospitals and communities.”

Several events will be held throughout the week to honor nurses, including:

  • Celebrations at individual hospitals, such as pop-up carts with snacks and coffee, chair massages, flower delivery and chapel services

  • Daisy Award recipient luncheon

  • “Pause for the Paws” animal-assisted pet therapy

  • Sports mascot visits from the Winston-Salem Dash and High Point Rockers

  • Professional development opportunities

In 2023, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist had 11 nurses recognized among North Carolina’s Great 100, a prestigious peer-recognition program honoring nurses for their commitment to their patients, communities and the nursing profession. In all, 20 Atrium Health nurses were included on the 2023 Great 100 Nurses list.
