City of Lexington Celebrates Arbor Day with Tree Planting Ceremony
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LEXINGTON, NC — 4/24/2026 — In a commitment to local environmental stewardship and community growth, the City of Lexington celebrated Arbor Day this week with a commemorative tree planting.
The event took place at Finch Park where a new Coral Bark Japanese Maple was added to the park’s landscape. The planting was made possible through a hands-on partnership with a dedicated group of volunteers from RH CPAs, PLLC, who assisted with ensuring the tree was properly installed to thrive for generations to come. The volunteers also took part in a litter sweep, which helps trees by improving their immediate environment, protecting them from physical damage, and maintaining the quality of the soil and water that supports them. These efforts remove trash, debris, and excessive organic matter, allowing trees to grow in a healthier, less stressed, and more natural state.
"Trees are a vital part of our city’s infrastructure, providing shade, beauty, and a cleaner environment," said Laura Duran, Parks and Recreation Director. "We are grateful to the team at RH CPAs for their hard work and for demonstrating the impact we can make when local businesses and government work together."
Previously, at the April 13 City Council Meeting, Mayor Jason Hayes presented an Official Proclamation designating April 24, 2026, as National Arbor Day. The proclamation encouraged community groups and local partners to observe this day by responsibly planting trees, supporting tree-care initiatives, participating in related events, and committing to the long-term health and growth of our community’s tree canopy for the benefit of present and future generations.
