Freeze Warning Tonight for Davidson County and Central NC

LEXINGTON — The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Freeze Warning for all of central North Carolina, including Davidson County, in effect from 8 p.m. Monday through 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters say sub-freezing temperatures between 21 and 30 degrees are expected overnight — enough to put a hard stop to what’s left of the growing season. Residents should take precautions to protect tender plants, pets, and exposed water pipes.

“Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” the advisory stated.

Officials recommend wrapping pipes, draining outdoor hoses, or allowing faucets to drip slowly overnight. Those with outdoor animals should make sure they have access to warm shelter and unfrozen water.

The National Weather Service notes that the cold spell marks one of the first widespread freezes of the season, signaling the transition into late fall. After sunrise Tuesday, temperatures are expected to rebound into the upper 40s and low 50s, with a gradual warming trend midweek.
