County braces for high call volume as property tax revaluation notices are mailed
Property Tax Revaluation Notices to Be Mailed Across Davidson County
DAVIDSON COUNTY — Nearly 98,000 property revaluation notices are being printed and mailed to property owners across Davidson County, with delivery expected to begin as early as tomorrow afternoon.
The notices reflect the county’s latest countywide property reappraisal. Under North Carolina General Statute § 105-286, counties are required to conduct a reappraisal of all real property at least once every eight years. The reappraisal updates the assessed value of property for tax purposes.
In a message shared ahead of the mailing, Diane Young, Division Manager with Davidson County Government’s Tax Department, said:
“Just wanted to give everyone a brief update of the revaluation notices and the chaos that is fixing to unfold. The 98,000 notices are in the process of being printed and mailed with the impact starting possibly tomorrow afternoon. Attached is a copy of a notice and brochure for you to review. As we are finalizing things to prepare for this mass chaos, processes may change but know that we are trying to have everyone’s best interest in mind which includes the taxpayer. Please be patient as we continue to discuss the best way to employ the quickest and safest way to manage the appeals.”
County officials anticipate a high volume of calls and appeals as property owners review their updated values. The assessed value listed on the notice is used to calculate property taxes, though a change in value does not automatically mean taxes will increase or decrease. Final tax bills depend on the tax rate set by local governing boards.
A brochure included with the notice outlines how property owners can review their valuation and file an appeal if they believe it is incorrect.
County officials are asking residents to be patient as staff prepare to process appeals and respond to inquiries in the coming weeks. Property owners are encouraged to carefully review their notice and follow the instructions provided if they have questions.
