Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Seizes Property in Thomasville Tied to Ongoing Drug Activity

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office has taken control over a property in Thomasville with a history of drug activity.

After a prolonged investigation and multiple community complaints, Davidson County Sheriff Richie Simmons said the department requested the assistance of the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Division Nuisance Abatement Team regarding the property located at 827 Shell Road in Thomasville.

As a result of this joint law enforcement investigation, the property owner agreed to a Limited Real Estate Power of Attorney which allows the sheriff’s office to arrest any person, except for the owner and the sole tenant, for trespassing.

According to Simmons, this property will no longer be used or kept for drug use or distribution. The owner intends to sell the property in the coming months.

“The nuisance abatement law is a valuable tool that provides remedies for locations consistently associated with criminal activity and harm to communities,” said Simmons. “I’m grateful for our strong partnership with the North Carolina ALE Division and the citizens of this community.”

Chapter 19 of the North Carolina General Statutes defines nuisance activities, which include, in part, crimes involving drug laws, recurring violence and breaches of the peace to the public. Furthermore, it provides for a civil remedy to abate such criminal acts and their detrimental impacts on the community.
