City of Thomasville investigating potential cybersecurity threat

City of Thomasville investigating potential cybersecurity threat

The City of Thomasville is currently investigating a potential cybersecurity incident involving its municipal systems. Upon identification of suspicious activity within the City’s digital infrastructure, immediate action was taken to contain the situation and initiate a thorough investigation.

City IT personnel, in coordination with third-party cybersecurity experts, are working diligently to assess the scope and nature of the incident. At this time, it remains unclear whether any sensitive information has been accessed or compromised.
Out of an abundance of caution, certain systems may experience temporary disruptions as security protocols are strengthened and forensic reviews are completed.

Essential services, including public safety, continue to operate without interruption.
“We take the security of our systems and the privacy of our residents very seriously,” said Michael Brandt, City Manager. “Our top priority is to protect the integrity of our information systems and ensure transparency with the public.”
The City has notified the appropriate state and federal authorities and is following established protocols for response and mitigation. Should it be determined that personal information was affected, individuals will be contacted directly and provided with guidance and support, in accordance with North Carolina law and the City’s cyber incident response policy.

All public safety and critical City services have remained operational.
Updates will be provided as more information becomes available. For ongoing updates, please visit, www.thomasville-nc.gov.
