Schools Seek County Permission to Apply for State Capital Funds

Two local school systems are seeking county approval to pursue state funding for school capital needs.

The requests are included on the Davidson County Board of Commissioners agenda for Monday, September 28.

Lexington City Schools

Lexington City Schools is seeking permission to apply for Needs-Based Public School Capital Funds through the state.

The program provides state assistance for eligible public school capital projects, with funding intended to help school systems address facility needs and other major capital improvements.

The county commissioners’ action would allow Lexington City Schools to move forward with its application for state funding.

Thomasville City Schools

The commissioners are also scheduled to continue their discussion regarding Thomasville City Schools and its capital needs.

The continued discussion gives county officials an opportunity to review the school system’s request and consider next steps related to potential state capital funding.

The two school systems are among the local governments and public agencies that may seek outside funding to address school facility needs as construction, renovation and other capital costs continue to place pressure on local budgets.

The Board of Commissioners will consider the Lexington City Schools request and continue its discussion of Thomasville City Schools during its September 28 meeting.
