The Quiet Architect: Local Senior Charts a Path in Engineering
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

In a world that often rewards the loudest voice in the room, 18-year-old Alexander Montanez is proving that there is immense power in silence. A senior at Lexington Senior High School and the youngest of four siblings, he carries a quiet confidence that conceals his age — a quality sparked by a relentless questioning of how the world works.

While many of Alexander’s peers are maneuvering through the standard high school experience, he is already deep into his career journey. Currently enrolled in an early college program at Davidson-Davie Community College (DDCC), he has maintained a stellar academic record while balancing the campus climate and culture.

A self-described introvert, his “boundless” interests serve as his primary language. Whether untangling the complexities of circuitry, writing code, or exploring the intersection of graphic design and music, he approaches his hobbies with the same vigor he applies to his studies. It is this depth of focus that has led him to pursue a career in mechanical engineering.

Despite his academic success and clear vision, the path forward hasn’t been without its challenges. Lacking full financial support to cover the rising costs of higher education, he has remained positive and determined, both working and saving in pursuit of continuing his studies at DDCC before transferring to A&T to complete his engineering degree.

Hopefully, the recently awarded Charles McNeair Educational Advancement Scholarship will serve as a vital bridge for this transition. By easing the financial burden, the scholarship ensures that his intellect and “quiet confidence” can remain focused where they belong: on engineering.

“I’ve always been interested in the way things are built,” he says. With this new support, he is well on his way to building a remarkable career of his own.

Established in 2025 to honor Charles McNeair — a high school student arrested in 1979 at age 16 but released in May 2026 — the Charles McNeair Educational Advancement Scholarship program seeks to lighten financial barriers and empower at-risk students who are determined to pursue higher education or career training. By supporting these students, organizers hope to make a lasting impact on their lives and help them build a brighter future.
