LSHS inducts five into the Hall of Fame

On Friday afternoon, October 7, Lexington Senior High School welcomed its newest members into the Hall of Fame. With family, friends and fellow hall of famers in attendance, Tony Clark, Butch Gibson, Nikki Friday, Luis Contreras and the late Van Britt (his daughters accepted his award on his behalf) were enshrined among the elite athletes and coaches that have graced the halls of LSHS and the former Dunbar High School.

Below are the accolades for each inductee:

Anthony Tony Clark - 1984 LSHS graduate; Three sport athlete (Football,  Basketball & Baseball); 1984 Football MVP; 2,769 passing yards, 26 Passing  TD's and 16 Rushing TDs; 2 Time All County Football Player; All Conference Basketball; Football scholarship to Elon University

Coach Thomas “Butch” Gibson - 1961 LSHS graduate; LSHS - Best Offensive Lineman Award 1960; Chowan College Hall of Fame; Coached over 20 years of Rec &  Parks and Middle School Football; Served 30 Years as Lexington police officer; NC Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award

Versie “Nikki” Friday - 1990 LSHS graduate; 1989 & 1990 CCC Athlete of the Year; Featured in Sports Illustrated  "Who's Who in High School Sports"; 1989 & 1990-Women's  Basketball All County & All  Conference; All Winston Salem Journal Northwest Team; Central Carolina Conference (Basketball) Female Player of the Year; Member of the Women’s 1,000  Point Club; NCHSAA Triple Jump Record Holder 42ft; NC Gatorade Female Track Athlete of the Year

Luis Leon Contreras - 2011 LSHS graduate; Over 15 years and current basketball & football manager Davidson County Special Olympics Torch Barrier; Translator during preseason parent meetings; Pre-game & Post-game Coordinator; Countless hours behind the scenes assisting athletic and booster club  programs

Van Russell Britt - 1965 Dunbar graduate; Three sport athlete (Football, Basketball &  Track); One of the top three fastest athletes to ever play sports at Dunbar; Dunbar/Basketball Conference Championship team; 1965 State Championship Track team; AAU Junior Olympics record holder 100m & 220m dashes; 9.8 - Time in the 100-meter dash; WSSU Track scholarship; WSSU All-CIAA Track Team; Recreation & Parks Little League football & baseball coach
