Emma Hylton of Hospice joins Palm Sunday Uptown Lexington

Hospice of Davidson County (HODC) proudly announces that Emma Hylton, Spiritual Counselor, will be delivering the homily at the community Palm Sunday service. The service is open to the community and will be held at the Old Courthouse in Uptown Lexington on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 12:15 p.m.

Emma Hylton has served as Spiritual Counselor with HODC for two (2) years as well as an active member of the Greater Lexington Area Ministerial Association (GLAMA). Ms. Hylton is currently the president of GLAMA, which orchestrates the annual community Palm Sunday service. Ms.Hylton’s sermon is entitled, “Lay Down Your Cloak,” and will be shared during the service, which the community is encouraged to attend.

Ms. Hylton’s presidency with GLAMA will conclude in May. Her tenure as GLAMA president aligns closely with her daily work as a spiritual counselor at Hospice of Davidson County. “My role as GLAMA president has allowed me to create new connections with people and resources throughout Davidson County, ultimately creating opportunities to better meet the needs of our community members,” shared Ms. Hylton.

Although Ms. Hylton will conclude her presidency with GLAMA this year, she is future focused on further serving the patients and families at HODC through her recent appointment on the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s (NCPCO) Next Generation Leadership Council.

Ms. Hylton earned a Masters of Divinity in 2016 before going on to complete both a chaplain residency at Brenner’s Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC and a fellowship as the Palliative Care chaplain at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist. Her continued pursuit of service led Ms. Hylton to be consecrated as a Deaconess in the UMC and to complete certification in Hospice and Palliative Care Chaplaincy through the Shiley Haynes Institute for Palliative Care.

“Whether I’m in the role of formal spiritual counselor, organizational leader, or simply neighbor to my fellow community member, I stay grounded in the fact that listening well is foundational to helping others. I strive to always guide individuals towards inner reflection in order to assist them on their own personal path towards inner peace.”
