Every Step Counts in STEPtember

Every Step Counts in STEPtember

Davidson County, NC – The National Council on Aging has designated September as National Senior Center Month – a time to recognize the vital role that senior centers play in communities promoting the overall well-being of older adults. In honor of this special month, Davidson County Senior Services is excited to announce a month-long walking challenge that is centered around better health, teamwork and community spirit. STEPtember is a new initiative to encourage adults age 55 and older to move more and count their steps to reach a common step count goal of 5,250,000 steps by the end of the month. The program will begin September 1, and participants will be asked to report their step count weekly so group success can be tracked accordingly

Seniors interested in participating in this program are encouraged to attend a kickoff party at 10 a.m. August 26 at the Davidson County Senior Center in Lexington, 555-B West Center St. Ext. Kickoff participants will receive a thorough explanation of program details, including a list of walking tracks and trails in Davidson County, smartphone apps available to track steps, a tracking calendar and a goody bag. Multiple drawings will be held throughout the initiative and a “victory luncheon” is scheduled to celebrate individual and group successes during the campaign. Preregistration is required to attend the kickoff party.
