From Yellow Jacket to Mentor: Celebrating Liz Cross's 15 Years at Lexington High School
For a select few, a career path comes full circle, leading them back to the very place their journey began. Liz Cross is one of those individuals. A proud Lexington High School alumnus and proud alumnus of the University of North Carolina Greensboro. She has dedicated the past 15 years of her life to shaping the next generation of Yellow Jackets. From student to teacher and now to a leader in the school’s administration, her commitment to the Lexington community is both a passion and a purpose.
With over three decades of experience in business and education, Liz Cross’s career is a testament to her dedication to learning and growth. Always looking to expand her skills and knowledge, she has cultivated a diverse background that spans from business management to non-profit work. Her specialties include teaching and education administration, and her heart for service is evident in her past roles, including serving as a board member for a community garden and providing early childhood literacy services with The Boys Club International in New Orleans. This rich blend of experiences has given her a unique perspective, allowing her to connect with students on a deeper level and understand the broader world they are preparing to enter.
Many in the Lexington community remember Mrs. Cross as the beloved foods teacher, a role she held for years before stepping into her current position last year. In her new role as the Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE), she oversees all of the high school's CTE classes and manages the partnership with Davidson-Davie Community College (DDCC). Her transition to this leadership role was seamless, built on a foundation of trust and respect from both her colleagues and students.
Mrs. Cross's impact goes far beyond the classroom. She is a devoted, family-oriented woman who values the simple things in life. Her peers consistently praise her for having the "best heart" when it comes to the students in this community. She is known for her quiet strength and a genuine desire to help others. One former student recalled observing her at a school assembly, noting her calm demeanor, respectfulness, and willingness to help. This observation speaks volumes about her character and her unwavering commitment to putting students first. She goes above and beyond, extending a helping hand and offering guidance to those who need it most.
Her dedication is also deeply personal. Both of her children graduated from Lexington, giving her a unique connection to the school and its families. This shared experience underscores her commitment to the community and her understanding of the hopes and challenges that come with raising a family in Lexington.
Today, as we honor Liz Cross for her 15 years of service at Lexington High School, we celebrate a woman who has given so much of herself to this community. Her contributions, both in and out of the classroom, have helped shape countless young lives and prepare them for their future. The entire Davidson Local team extends its deepest gratitude for her years of service and her enduring impact on our future leaders. We wish her nothing but the best in all her future endeavors, and we look forward to seeing the continued positive change she will bring to the lives of Yellow Jackets for years to come.
