Local events to fill your social calendar

There are a variety of fun and interesting events planned locally for the remaining weeks in January. Here are a few options to keep you moving this month.  

January 19 - Beginning at 6:00 PM it’s Dolly Day at Goose & Monkey Brewhouse in Lexington. Celebrate the legendary Dolly Parton's birthday with a night of fun. Pay tribute to the Queen of Country Music and raise a glass to her iconic talent and timeless hits. Don't miss out on this first-ever Dolly Day celebration.

6:00 PM at Smoke & Oak located at 127 West Center Street in Lexington. Levi from Jolo will be back in the lounge for the first time in 2024 and Brandon has paired to perfectly blend.

January 20- Youth Spring Sports Registration - Davidson-Townsend area. From 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM.  It is time for youth Spring sports in person registration at Yadkin Valley Regional Career Academy located at 2065 East Holly Grove Road in Lexington. Do not wait to register because teams are filling up fast. Baseball and  Softball registration will close on February 19, 2024.

11:00 AM until 1:00 PM -  Saturday Matinee: The Raven. The West Davidson Public Library’s Janu-Worry Saturday Matinee for this week is The Raven, starring Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff.  This 1935 black and white horror movie is not rated, but it is very tame by today's standards. It should be appropriate for all but the youngest and most sensitive viewers. This movie is very loosely based on Edgar Allan Poe's poem of the same title, with stars Lugosi and Karloff of Dracula and Frankenstein fame playing a deranged doctor and his henchman. There will be free microwave popcorn for anyone who wants some and patrons are welcome to bring their own covered beverages. 

Junk Journaling Basics Workshop at Pig City Books located at 16 Court from 11:00 Am until 3:00 PM. Do you want to learn the basics of creating and filling a junk journal, but you are not sure where to start? Join Mande with Reclaimed Spines and begin to create your own. The cost is $25 per person and will include everything you need to get started including a blank journal and access to all the tools, supplies and guidance. If you have joined before you are more than welcome to join again, just bring your journal and your cost is $15. This workshop is limited to 10 people.

Winter Farmers Market at Bull City Ciderworks located at 599 South Railroad Street in Lexington. Noon until 3:00 PM.

January 21- Benefit For Charles McNeair Beginning at 5:00 PM at 104 East Center Street in Lexington, First Reformed United Church of Christ will be the setting for an amazing concert. Presented by Advocates For Charles McNeair, this concert will showcase the talents of vocalist Kim Brett and KC Leak.

January 22- 6:30 PM until 7:30 PM at West Davidson Public Library located at 246 Tyro School Road. Join them for a fun game of Library Bingo at the first Library Bingo of the New Year. As always, join for free bingo with prizes for winners.

4:00 PM at the North Davidson Public Library. Join the “in-beTWEENers After School Pro9gram” for ages 8-12. “in-beTWEENers” ages 8-12 are invited to hang out at the library after school for crafts, games and experiments. Registration is required. Register at the library or call 336-242-2050.

January 25- Hobby Expo-4:00 PM until 6:00 PM the West Davidson Public Library is hosting a Hobby Expo to celebrate National Hobby Month. They thought it would be fun to give some of their patrons a chance to show off some hobbies. There are six spots available. Come show off some of your work, tools or equipment and answer any questions about your hobby for our visiting patrons.
