Dear Friends,

Our third week of August is coming to a close and we've gotten a little relief from the burdensome heat. I hope the recent storms that rolled across our state earlier this week did not impact your families or properties in a negative way.

We have spent almost 110 days in session so far, and this week featured some exciting legislative activity. Senate bills were working their way through House committees and a long-lasting voting session occurred in both chambers on Wednesday. Read below for the highlights from the floor.

I am thrilled that the General Assembly has successfully overridden Governor Cooper's vetoes. Important bills can now be enacted into law. The companion House bill to my Senate Bill 378 was included in our veto overrides. I look forward to the changes it will create for the betterment of housing construction in our area.

Wednesday was also Tomato Sandwich Day, a.k.a. 'Mater Sandwich, at the General Assembly. This event was sponsored by Senator Galey and Representative . Read about it's history below and the significance of the day to bring members together!

I would like to share a farming family's contribution to our rural culture in Davidson County. The Fine family has been selected by the Davidson Soil and Water Conservation District as the 2023 Conservation Farm Family. I was honored to meet them at the annual banquet.

The Lexington Library is holding a back-to-school event. Please read the details below and bring your family to help you prepare for the new year!

If you have time to visit the Raleigh area this Fall, the NC Museum of History is revealing their new exhibit about the furniture manufacturing industry, which was so important to our area of the state. Furniture: Crafting a North Carolina Legacy opens in September, so stay tuned for details.

The newest park in our area is Yadkin River Park in Linwood. It is featured in our Discovering the District section to inspire you and your families to visit. It contains several recreation friendly amenities and has one of only 8 bridges nationwide!

Many opportunities exist this weekend and for the upcoming week for you to prepare for the school year, unwind a little more before summer's end or maybe improve your gardening skills.

If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at

(919) 733-5743.

I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
