Dear Friends,

Welcome to October! Historically, this is a month of big events in our area. It feels like the kick off to the holiday season has arrived, and the happenings in our district are the pre-game activities to get you energized for what's to come. I enjoyed seeing folks at the Davidson County fair recently, and I am looking forward to seeing more people at our headline events later in the month.

I would like to take the chance to mention my gratitude for our hard-working farmers. October 12th is National Farmer's Day. The sacrifices and skills of farming families are what keeps our nation and other countries fed. Thank you so much!

It's official--North Carolina has a new operating budget for the next two years. The Budget bill sat on Governor Cooper's desk and on the 10th day, it became enacted into law without his signature on October 2nd. I am pleased with the funding I was able to secure for our district.

Other actions are set to occur on Senate bills early next week. Since Governor Cooper has maintained his title of NC's Veto Governor, we have 3 bills which were vetoed recently to reconsider. A list of Senate bills that have been enacted since last week is featured below.

Lt. Governor Robinson may be on the short list of candidates for our nation's vice presidency. Fox News included Robinson with two other potential candidates whose names will be familiar to many of you.

An announcement has been made that Lexington City Schools is the recipient of a grant from the Department of Education. This grant is meant to support educators in a variety of ways. Lexington City Schools is one of only 8 school districts in NC to receive this award!

Mocksville is gearing up for its annual 5K walk/run race at the end of the month. Registration is open now, and a discount is available if you get it done early. If you are a fitness fanatic, please come support the town while you get in a workout for 3.1 miles.

Lexington's BBQ Festival is coming up at the end of the month, too. Start expanding your stomach now so you can eat your fill of barbecue! This food festival is world famous and if you've never been, this is a great year to be a first time visitor.

This weekend looks to be another beautiful example of Fall in North Carolina!

Visit the local farmer's market and get your autumn display items or make your first batch of pumpkin bread. Have a safe, happy weekend and I'll have more news for you next week about what's happening in the Senate.

If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at

(919) 733-5743.

I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
