Davidson County Public Library Invites Families to Unearth a Story, Summer Reading Program

The Davidson County Public Library is inviting children, teens, and families to dig into reading this summer through its 2026 Summer Reading Program, themed “Unearth a Story.”

This year’s program focuses on dinosaurs, paleontology, and archaeology, offering hands-on activities, special events, and educational opportunities across all five library branches throughout June and the summer months.

“At the library, we believe summertime and reading go together like peanut butter and jelly. This year, we are excited to learn more about dinosaurs! We encourage families to join us as we dig into some great stories and have fun along the way, all the while helping children stay on track with their learning,” said Sheila Killebrew, Library Director.

Each library branch will offer its own unique programming tied to the theme, along with special kickoff events to launch the summer season.

Summer Reading Kickoff Events

• Lexington Public Library — June 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring Ed’s Dinosaurs

• West Davidson Public Library — June 8 at 10 a.m., featuring activities from the North Carolina Zoo
