Neese's Country Sausage to return after safety inspections

Beloved Sausage Shortage has been felt across Davidson County as USDA reviews Neese's Operations

Customers across Davidson County have reported difficulty finding some products made by Neese's Country Sausage in recent months, leading to questions about the company's production status.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), a Notice of Suspension issued in September 2025 applies only to a specific portion of the company's Greensboro facility and does not represent a complete shutdown of operations.

Federal officials said the action was related to requirements governing ready-to-eat food processing and controls designed to prevent contamination. The company has submitted a response that remains under review by federal regulators.

The clarification comes after months of shortages involving products including livermush and liver pudding. Customers throughout North Carolina have reported difficulty locating the products at grocery stores, while some retailers and restaurants have experienced inconsistent availability.

USDA officials noted that a Notice of Suspension can be limited to specific operations within a facility and does not necessarily halt all production. The agency said affected operations may resume once compliance issues have been addressed and approved.

No timeline has been announced regarding the agency's review process.

Founded in Greensboro in 1917, Neese's Country Sausage has supplied pork products throughout North Carolina for more than a century and remains a familiar brand in Davidson County grocery stores and restaurants.
