Op-Ed from Greggory Slate: Davidson County Schools
To the Editor,
As we enter the holiday season and reflect on the progress of Davidson County Schools (DCS) over the past year, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our community for its unwavering support. Our school district is thriving, and that success is a direct result of the collective effort from our dedicated outstanding teachers, strong school-based leadership, and the vibrant increased parent and community involvement we see every day.
The recent successes we’ve celebrated—from student academic achievements to successes in athletics to thriving parental support—demonstrate that when we work together, our students win. We are currently seeing a level of engagement that is truly making a difference in the lives of our young learners.
However, our work is far from over. Our focus remains steadfast on making DCS the premier school district in North Carolina. To achieve this, we are prioritizing increased capital improvements and critical safety upgrades. By implementing cutting-edge technology like OpenGate weapons detection and Eviden AI for enhanced security, we are ensuring that our schools remain safe havens for learning. Additionally, we are working closely with our county government on HVAC projects that will improve the learning and working environment for all.
Lastly, we are committed to excellent professional learning for our staff, providing them with the tools they need to inspire the next generation. This foundation of safety and expertise fosters strong student engagement, helping every child in our care achieve their dreams and reach their career goals.
Thank you, Davidson County, for being our partner in excellence. Together, we are building a brighter future for every student. Take care and have a great holiday season.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gregg Slate
