Davidson County Senior Services Program Earns National Spotlight for Innovative Marketing

DAVIDSON COUNTY, NC-Brooke Adams, Special Events Coordinator for Davidson County Senior Services, has been honored as a winner of the National Council on Aging (NCOA)'s National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC) Program of Excellence Awards. The Thomasville Senior Center, part of Davidson County Senior Services, is one of just seven senior centers across the country to receive this prestigious recognition for their exceptional work serving older adults.

"We're so proud to accept this award honoring the hard work Brooke puts in each day to make a difference," said Thessia Everhart-Roberts, Director of Davidson County Senior Services. "We believe that older adults deserve a place where they can feel accepted and empowered, which is why we offer a rangeof resources and activities."

Each year, the NISC Programs of Excellence Awards recognize senior centers that go above and beyond to provide older adults with engaging programs, vital resources, and opportunities to stay connected and prevent social isolation.

Entries are judged by a panel of peers and NISC affiliate members and fall into seven categories: Marketing/Public Relations, Social and Support Services, Health and Wellness, Intergenerational, Nutrition, Technology, and Virtual and Hybrid Programming. There is also a Modernizing Senior Centers Innovation Award.

Brooke received the award in the Marketing/Public Relations category, which honors innovative efforts in branding, community outreach, and public engagement that raise the visibility of senior centers and attract new participants or partners.

The recognized program was Brooke's creative and widely attended Murder Mystery Dinners- interactive events where participants work together to solve a fictional murder while enjoying a meal.

These events blend theater, role-play, and problem-solving to deliver a unique experience that promotes critical thinking, encourages social interaction, and has driven significant program growth for the center.
