Filing Opens July 7th for Davidson County’s 2025 Municipal Elections
Candidate filing for Davidson County’s 2025 municipal elections will open on Monday, July 7 at 8am and close on Friday, July 18 at 12:00 noon. This filing window applies only to municipal offices—such as mayoral seats, town councils, and local school boards—and does not include state-level or national races, which follow separate election calendars and filing periods.
Local voters will decide leadership in the cities and towns of Lexington, Thomasville, Denton, Wallburg, and Midway. School board seats for Lexington City Schools and Thomasville City Schools are also on the ballot. These officials help make decisions about infrastructure, education, zoning, public safety, and community development—areas that directly affect daily life in Davidson County.
Several individuals have already expressed interest in running, but no candidacy is official until paperwork is filed with the Davidson County Board of Elections, located at 945 N. Main Street, Suite A in Lexington. Candidates must file in person during office hours and pay a filing fee, which varies depending on the office.
To be eligible, candidates must be U.S. citizens, registered voters in Davidson County, at least 21 years old by Election Day (November 4), and live in the district or municipality they wish to represent.
While municipal elections are officially nonpartisan in North Carolina, local boards regularly handle complex policy issues, including public contracts, land use decisions, and closed-session economic development matters. Attending meetings, reviewing agendas, and participating in the election process are key ways residents can stay engaged in how their communities grow and operate.
