Davidson County Family Services is partnering with Holly Hill Cares and the Thomasville Police Department for the 3rd annual Break the Silence Walk at 3 p.m. on Sept. 21 at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery located at 401 W. Holly Hill Road in Thomasville.
Actions as simple as reaching out to a loved one and talking with one another can help tremendously. Mental illness makes you feel alone and isolated, and by reaching out and communicating with one another we can help each other and truly make an impact.
September is National Suicide Prevention Month. A topic most media outlets refuse to cover. A few years ago, I began covering mental health issues and suicide prevention through my role as a producer with The Public News Service. I never imagined it would impact my family.
With the conclusion of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, the growing amount of suicides and rate of depression in the US must be recognized.
