Yellow Jackets Scrimmage Strong, Assistant Coach Clodfelter Preaches Preparation

The Lexington Senior High School football team hosted a competitive scrimmage Thursday evening, welcoming Northwest Cabarrus, Mt. Tabor, and Ragsdale to Philpott memorial Stadium. While the atmosphere was charged with the excitement of an approaching season, Linebacker Position Coach Tony Clodfelter offered a candid assessment of his team's performance, emphasizing the work still ahead.

The scrimmage, held at 6:00 PM, provided an early look at the Yellow Jackets' readiness and highlighted areas for improvement. "Overall, the team still has some work to do before this upcoming season," Clodfelter stated, acknowledging that the path to success is rarely smooth. Despite the challenges, he expressed optimism and a collective eagerness to confront what lies ahead. "We're looking forward to the obstacles that are ahead of them as a team," he added, underscoring the team's commitment to growth and resilience.

Clodfelter also took a moment to commend the visiting teams for their consistent competitive spirit. "These guys come to compete every year," he noted, paying homage to Northwest Cabarrus, Mt. Tabor, and Ragsdale. The annual early-season matchups are clearly a highlight for the coach. "I also enjoy this time of the year as well," Clodfelter shared, recognizing the value of these challenging inter-squad contests in shaping his own team. These scrimmages are invaluable opportunities for coaches to evaluate talent, test strategies, and build team cohesion against quality opposition.

This season brings with it a fresh wave of talent for the Yellow Jackets, sparking hope and ambition within the program. With the infusion of new players, the team has its sights set high, with a return to the playoffs being a prominent goal. Lexington has a proud football tradition, and the prospect of a strong postseason run is undoubtedly motivating the players and coaching staff alike.

However, Clodfelter was quick to temper enthusiasm with a dose of realism, reiterating that success won't come without diligent effort. "Until then," he stressed, "preparation is key." This mantra will undoubtedly guide the Yellow Jackets through their remaining practices and into the regular season. The focus will be on refining techniques, improving execution, and fostering the teamwork necessary to navigate the rigors of competitive high school football. As the summer progresses, the Lexington Senior High School football program will be hard at work, striving to turn their playoff aspirations into a reality.
