The Social Worker Who Goes the Extra Mile: Celebrating Bobby Wagner
Today, Davidson Local extends a heartfelt special happy birthday to Bobby Wagner, a truly great role model for young men navigating the challenges of a rough society heavily influenced by social media. As a dedicated school social worker for several schools in the Triad area, Mr. Wagner embodies the principle of service, commitment, and relentless community engagement. He is also the proud father of two daughters, a role that undoubtedly deepens his commitment to the well-being of all young people.

A proud product of the Davidson County community, Wagner is a graduate of Lexington Senior High School. He furthered his education at North Carolina A&T State University, where he earned master's degrees in both Adult & Higher Education and Social Work. This powerful combination of academic achievement equipped him not just with credentials, but with the perspective and tools necessary to understand and address the complex needs of students and families.
More Than a Job: A Commitment to Community
Bobby Wagner doesn't merely view his position as a job; he sees it as a profound responsibility. He deeply values the lives he is able to be a part of every day and doesn't take the opportunity to serve for granted one bit. This dedication is palpable in every interaction.

The appreciation for "Mr. Wag" is loudest in the schools and communities he serves. The experience of seeing him in action at places like Foust Elementary School during school events reveals a community figure who is adored and trusted. I remember the constant refrain of "Mr. Wag this" and "Mr. Wag that" is a testament to the powerful, positive rapport he builds with parents and students alike. It's safe to say this small-town guy has definitely made a difference that resonates well beyond the school halls.
What truly sets Bobby Wagner apart is his courageous and unflinching approach to outreach. Unlike many who might rely on institutional boundaries, Wagner makes it his personal duty to go into the roughest areas to connect with children who are most in need. He operates without hesitation when a child cries out for help, recognizing that his impact is greatest when he meets them where they are. By choosing to stay in the community, he ensures that his help is consistent, genuine, and informed by a deep understanding of the local landscape—a key factor that makes him the effective role model he is.
A Lineage of Excellence and Influence
Wagner’s deep commitment is rooted in a tremendous lineage of excellence stemming from the Horton family. This heritage instilled in him the discipline and work ethic necessary for his demanding field.

In a personal conversation, Wagner shared the significant role his older brother, Ray Horton, played in shaping his character. While Wagner described Horton as being "like a drill sergeant," he appreciated every minute of it, recognizing the tough love as essential guidance.

Equally influential is his mother, Constance Watson. Wagner stated that watching his mom work hard was a primary motivator that made him work harder. These family foundations—a combination of strict, loving accountability and a powerful example of tireless dedication—gave Wagner the blueprint for the resilient, committed man and father he is today.
In a world where young men and woman are bombarded by the often-superficial narratives of social media, figures like Bobby Wagner stand out as authentic heroes. He models empathy, hard work, community action, and the unwavering dedication that truly creates positive change.
Davidson Local wishes Bobby Wagner the very best on his birthday. May his life continue to be filled with the fulfillment that comes from such selfless service. God Bless.
