Thomasville Mayoral Race Heads to Recount Nov. 24th
Thomasville, N.C. — A recount will officially go underway in the Thomasville mayoral race after one challenger formally requested one, following a razor-thin margin against incumbent Raleigh York Jr.
Election officials reported that York leads by around 20 votes, a difference small enough to trigger the state recount process.
Davidson County Public Notice
The Davidson County Board of Elections issued a public notice confirming the recount. The notice states that the recount is scheduled to begin November 24 at the Davidson County BOE.
In Thomasville, current mayor Raleigh York filed for reelection. York has served as mayor since 2015; and served on the city council since 2005.
Johnson, a City Council member, could have requested the recount due to the narrow vote margin. Even if Johnson does not prevail, he retains his seat on the city council through 2027. The race underscores the importance of every ballot in local elections, especially provisional ballots that can influence extremely close contests.
The recount is set to begin November 24, with officials following state rules to ensure accuracy and transparency. Members of the public and media may observe portions of the process, though individual ballots will not be publicly exposed.
