Davidson County early voting climbs past 19,500 as final week begins

LEXINGTON — Early voting in Davidson County is on the rise heading into the final week before the Nov. 3 general election, with 19,568 of the county's 123,650 registered voters — 15.8 percent — already casting ballots, according to Davidson County Board of Elections figures through Saturday, Oct. 24.

Officials say turnout is on par, percentage-wise pointing toward NC Constitutional Amendments as taking more time. Voters have expressed pleasant surprise.

With six days of early voting remaining, the county has averaged more than 2,100 voters a day since sites opened Oct. 15. Weekday turnout has been steady, generally landing between 2,100 and 2,650 voters. The busiest day so far was Tuesday, Oct. 20, when about 2,636 people voted across all five sites. Saturdays have been lighter, with roughly 1,180 voters on Oct. 17 and about 1,410 on Oct. 24.

Republicans make up nearly half of early voters

Registered Republicans account for 9,085 of the ballots cast so far, or about 46 percent. Unaffiliated voters have cast 5,746 ballots (29 percent), and Democrats 4,689 (24 percent). Forty-four Libertarians and four Green Party voters have also turned out.

Board of Elections office leads all sites

The Board of Elections office has been the county's busiest early voting site, with 5,900 ballots — about 30 percent of the total — and more than 700 voters on every weekday. The TLIB site follows with 5,055 voters, then ARC with 3,658, MID with 3,273 and DLIB with 1,682.
