A Medley of Beautiful Art and Interesting Information

At the Edward C. Smith Civic Center 217 South Main Street, Lexington, North Carolina
Please join the Davidson County Historical Museum, Lexington Public Library, and The Edward C. Smith Civic Center for an interesting and varied afternoon of a North Carolinian pallet wood art exhibition, North Carolina’s history of moonshine and NASCAR, as well as a plethora of books on both subjects!
At 3 PM, join Jim Myers, a lifelong Resident of Davidson County, a graduate of
Lexington Senior High, North Carolina State University, and a retired Senior
Vice President of Lexington Homes Brands (48 years). Jim currently serves on
11 boards within this community as well as being a member of Lexington City
Council. He has graciously loaned his private collection of pallet wood art,
sometimes referred to as plank art, to the Smith Gallery for this event and we
couldn’t be happier. These beautiful pieces, along with some of the artists, will
be on display for a limited time so please come and enjoy them!
Then, at 4:00ish PM, please proceed into the ballroom for a discussion with
esteemed historian Dr. Daniel S. Pierce, who will present, “North Carolina:
First in Prohibition (and Moonshine.) Dr. Pierce is a Professor of History at the
University of North Carolina – Asheville. He is a graduate of Western Carolina
University (B.S.Ed.), the University of Alabama (M.A. History), and the
University of Tennessee (Ph.D. History). His research focuses on the Great
Smoky Mountains, Southern Appalachian history, the history of Moonshining,
and NASCAR history.
