Local Authors Event to Feature Special Book Launches, Announcements and Music by Jack Riggs

LEXINGTON, N.C. — The Friends of the Lexington Library will host a free Local Author Event on Saturday, May 16, featuring special book launches, author announcements, live music, and a celebration of local storytelling at Bull City Ciderworks.

The event, scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., will bring together local and regional writers representing a variety of genres and experiences. Organizers say attendees can expect special announcements from several participating authors, along with opportunities to purchase books, attend signings, and connect directly with writers throughout the afternoon.

Participating authors include Robert Hill, Melanie Hill, Whitney Wallace, Barbara Presnell, Payton Leighann Hepler, Jim Broos, Lisa Fletcher, Kelly Leonard, Sabrina Buckner, Martina Romesberg, George Washington, Karen Fritz, Rosa Rosales, Tonya Lanier, D.S. Siceloff, Pandora Hamilton, Bessie Conner, Donald Holt Sr., Vance Bailey, Dr. Timogi Jackson, Courtney Berrier, and Antionette Kerr.

Music will be provided by Jack Riggs, whose sound blends bluesy progressive folk-rock with soulful influences inspired by artists including James Taylor, Jackson Browne, the Eagles, Steely Dan, and the Doobie Brothers.

Raised in North Carolina, Riggs began writing music in high school and later performed across college campuses, local venues, and summer tours stretching to New York. After two decades away, he recently returned home to North Carolina and has performed at venues including Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta, Writers at Scup, the Reeves Theater Café, and GSOngfest. Riggs is currently completing his debut album while sharing music through YouTube, SoundCloud, Instagram, and Facebook.

Organizers say the event is designed to highlight local literary voices while creating a welcoming space for readers and community members to gather. Free food and small bites will be available throughout the afternoon.

Attendees are also encouraged to participate in raffles and basket giveaways, with proceeds supporting programs and services at the Lexington Library.
