Charlie W. Bethea has spent more than four decades leading, mentoring, and building organizations dedicated to manhood, scholarship, and community service. A 1983 graduate of Winston-Salem State University with a B.A. in Business Administration and Accounting, Bethea also completed BB&T Banking School at Wake Forest University and Leadership Winston-Salem.
A lifelong member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Bethea is credited with reactivating the dormant Eta Beta Beta Chapter in 2015 — a major milestone that earned the Sixth District Reclamation Award in both 2016 and 2017. He has served on nearly every committee within the fraternity, including roles as Basileus, Finance Chairman, and Executive Committee Chairman, and helped establish several service foundations across Davidson County.
Bethea’s passion for mentorship led him to create a Mentoring Program for Young Men at the J. Smith Young YMCA in Lexington, focusing on males between the ages of 15 and 19. The camp teaches participants how to become “better men and better fathers.” Twelve youth attended the camp last year, and its success inspired Bethea to form Uplift Mission, Inc., a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to empowering young men and strengthening families.
