Charity League of Lexington celebrates 90th anniversary and 65th annual Holiday House

The Charity League of Lexington is having a memorable year. Not only is the organization celebrating its 90th anniversary; they are hosting its 65th annual Holiday House and Bazaar.

The Holiday House is the signature event and fundraiser for the Charity League, an organization that uses the proceeds to support children's programs in the Lexington/Davidson County community.

The annual Holiday House will be Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.   Ticket cost $15 and can be purchased in advance through a charity league member, at the Bob Timberlake Gallery, Curran Alexander Vineyard, Lanier’s Ace Hardware or at the door of the event. Tickets can also be purchased online.

Although the event will still have its traditional festivities, such as a tour of a historic home decorated for the holiday season and a selection of handcrafted products and home baked goods made area artisans and vendors, there will be some notable changes.

This year the Holiday House will be held at Curran Alexander Vineyards, featuring a recently restored original home from the 1800's.   The bazaar will be in the tasting room and in a tented area. Curran Alexander Vineyards is located at 1697 South N.C. Highway 150, Lexington.

Another highlight is original artwork by Bob Timberlake, "Ella's Bridge Club", which honors his mother who was a founding member of the Charity League of Lexington.

Prints will be available for order, and there will also be wine available for purchase with the original artwork printed on the wine label.

“It is our biggest fundraiser of the year and all proceeds stay local and are used for the children of Davidson County,” said Nina Smith, a representative from the Charity League of Lexington. “We hold it not just to highlight a local venue, but also to support our local artists and craftsmen. It's also fun to see all the different homes, especially this year with this historical home.”

Smith said although some people may have a misconception about what the Charity League of Lexington does, it is an all-inclusive club that works year-round to help support local children.

“We welcome anyone who is willing to give of their time and talent to give back to the community,” said Smith. “This fundraiser goes to support our programs in local schools and provides money to buy clothes for children in need throughout the year.”

She said the Holiday House is a great opportunity not only to get into the holiday spirit, but it is also a chance to buy gifts, get decorating ideas all while supporting a good cause.

“Whether you're a local resident, or visiting out of town, the Holiday House and Bazaar promises a day filled with holiday magic, community spirit, and the chance to make a difference,” said Smith.

There is a free shuttle service at Childress Vineyards; gates close at 6 p.m. on Nov. 22.
