Davidson County, North Carolina-On April 8, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, in North Carolina received a report for Zayona Yort, a 12-year-old Asian female was missing. Yort was last seen on April 8, 2026, at 2:30 a.m., at a residence on New Jersey Church Road, Lexington, North Carolina. Yort was wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and bright blue Croc shoes. A two-day search began led by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, with multiple hours and resources went into this investigation to include air and land searches.

Members from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the Invictus Team, Davidson County Emergency Management, Davidson County Fire Marshal’s Office, Thomasville Fire Department, South Lexington Fire Department, Davidson Charter Academy, Davidson County Rescue Squad, Lexington City Schools, Davidson County Social Services, Davidson County 911 Communications Center and the Davidson County Schools assisted with the search for Yort.

On April 9, 2026, at approximately 1:15, Yort was located at the Dollar General, 3653 Highway 8, Lexington, North Carolina. The on-duty manager observed her in the Dollar General Store and called law enforcement. Multiple members of the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office responded and found Yort safe and not hurt. Members with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and Davidson County Department of Social Services are working together on this investigation.

"Davidson County Sheriff’s Office prioritize partnerships with other law enforcement agencies and public safety agencies to accomplish our public safety mission," said Sheriff Richie Simmons. Sheriff Simmons thanked all the agencies that assisted the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office during this two-day search to bring Yonts back home.
