Learn to view falls as controllable...enroll in A Matter of Balance classes
A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to reduce the fear of falling and improve activity levels among older adults. The Davidson County Senior Center in Lexington (555-B West Center St. Ext.) will host the program on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12 to 2 p.m. November 4 – December 4 at no charge to county residents age 60 and older. Preregistration is required by October 30.
Falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries for older Americans. A Matter of Balance enables participants to reduce the fear of falling by learning to view falls as controllable, setting goals for increasing activity levels, making small changes to reduce fall risks at home, and exercise to increase strength and balance. The evidence-based program includes (8) 2-hour classes presented to a small group of 8-12 participants led by trained coaches. The curriculum includes group discussions, mutual problem solving, role-play activities, exercise training and a few homework assignments. Spaces are limited, so register today.
