Library makes a splash in Thomasville, offers Monday book sale
Experts call the “Summer Slide” the tendency for students to lose some of the reaching achievements made during the previous school year. Some estimates say, “it costs the educational system more than $1,500 per student to reteach materials. Over the course of a K-12 education, that can equate to more than $18,000 per student.”

Know your farmers: Gentle Harmony Farm
Meet Charles and Pamela Leonard of Gentle Harmony Farm, an organic medicinal herb farm located in the Yadkin River valley. When they purchased the property in 2008, they didn't intend for it to become a working farm as they had retired. Pamela had an increasing interest in herbal medicine that, coupled with their desire to have a productive second career, led them to a world of sustainable, organic agriculture.
Master Gardeners Tour flourishes with visitors
Tickets are still on sale for $20 at Breeden Insurance, 312 West Center Street and the entrance to Grimes Park, 25 Hege Drive. The tickets include a tote bag with detailed information about each garden, a map, pen and more.
Live United: United Way seeks volunteers to help allocate funds
Each year, a group of around 100 volunteers participate in this process to review applications from nonprofits requesting funds from United Way of Davidson County. These volunteers make decisions on how to allocate funding to a variety of local agencies doing life-changing work. Our community relies on these volunteers to act as stewards for funds by the United Way of Davidson County. You can be part of this amazing group!
Call for Writers: Juneteenth Essay Contest
The Davidson County Branch NAACP Education Committee is striving to improve and increase our county residents’ awareness of the importance of celebrating Juneteenth. We are hoping that by co-sponsoring this Essay Contest, students and adults will be engaged and encouraged to talk to their teachers, parents and friends in an effort to learn more about the origin and significance of this celebration as it relates to Freedom and the hope of enjoying all the rights and privileges as an American citizen for people of color.
Lexington celebrates PRIDE month
Bull City Ciderworks, the non-profit PFLAG Lexington NC and Uptown Lexington are partnering to host the second annual Lexington PRIDE event on Saturday, June 25. The colorful celebration is an engaging family activity to support and recognize the LGBTQ+ community not only in Davidson County but in the Triad.

They had no idea that their passion to provide a good food source would grow so large that they would also be able to provide enough food to their community.

Thomasville Memorial Day Parade, ceremonies set for this weekend
Organizers invite the public to come out to Downtown Thomasville on Monday, May 30th at 9:00am the our annual Memorial Day Parade. The parade will start at The Big Chair and go down Salem Street towards Memorial Park Dr. This event is hosted by the NC Memorial Day Parade Committee. The Grand Marshal for this year is Lt. Governor Mark Robinson.

Local Girl Scout brings teen PRIDE Parade to Lexington
The Teen Pride Parade will be on Saturday, June 4. Here’s how it will go: At 1 p.m., participants will gather at the historic St. Stephen United Methodist Church’s lawn to make signs that express their beliefs during the walk. At 2 p.m., they’ll walk on the sidewalks in uptown Lexington. Then, they’ll return to the First Reformed United Church of Christ (FRUCC) Fellowship Hall at 3 p.m. to hear from speakers—including Rev. Elizabeth Horton, Rev. Dr. Arnetta Beverly, a representative from PFLAG, and Miller herself—as well as engage in community building activities. Snacks will be provided.
