Honoring veterans: In Memoriam

For long-time member Bruce Cross and the brethren of American Legion Post 255, the historic building on Arthur Miller Drive houses noteworthy memories of history, culture and service. In name and deed, Lexington’s first African-American post honors the legacy of soldiers who returned from war, sought equal treatment and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for love of God and Country.

It is our responsibility as citizens to remember the Nation's brave fallen men and women - whether they died on foreign lands in the heat of battle or after a lifetime in the uniform of our Army. Never forget the men and women who know all too much the cost of our freedom, for their service to this country is the greatest gift of all.

City of Lexington Fire Department: House fire still under investigation

Firefighters arrived at 5:32 pm to find smoke and flames. Crews quickly began extinguishing the fire and searching for possible victims. All occupants had exited the house before the fire department's arrival. However, one occupant, an adult male, had suffered some smoke inhalation. He was treated and transported to Wake Forrest Baptist – Lexington Medical Center by Davidson County EMS.
