Lexington City Schools names Dr. Rodney Howard Shotwell as Interim Superintendent
The Lexington City Schools Board of Education has named Rodney Howard Shotwell, Ed.D., as Interim Superintendent, effective Tuesday, January 20.
Dr. Shotwell brings more than 30 years of experience in public education, including over 20 years of service as a superintendent in North Carolina. He most recently served as Superintendent of Rockingham County Schools, where he led a district of more than 11,000 students and 2,100 employees, managed a 130 million dollar annual budget, and implemented a systemwide mobile learning initiative for high school students.
Prior to his tenure in Rockingham County, Dr. Shotwell served as Superintendent of Macon County Schools, overseeing district operations for more than 4,000 students and leading the completion of a 23 million dollar construction package, including renovations to existing facilities and the construction of two new elementary schools.
Dr. Shotwell’s career also includes service as Principal of Lexington Senior High School, Associate Principal, classroom teacher, and adjunct professor of educational leadership at several North Carolina universities. He holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

We appreciate his willingness to step into this role and provide continuity and guidance as we move forward.”
Throughout his career, Dr. Shotwell has been recognized for strong instructional leadership and fiscal stewardship and has served in numerous state and national leadership roles.
