Ricky Lam Indicted for Murder of Missing Lexington Woman Nancy Bunly

The Lexington Police Department (LPD) announced major developments in the disappearance of 31-year-old Nancy Bunly, who was reported missing from her Druid Hills Drive home on September 23, 2024.

According to investigators, Bunly was last seen at her residence the night of September 22, 2024, by her live-in boyfriend, Ricky Lam. The couple shared a home with their newborn child. Early evidence led detectives to believe that Bunly may have been harmed.

Over the past year, LPD worked closely with local, state, and federal agencies, the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office, and non-law-enforcement resources. Investigators carried out extensive ground, aerial, and water searches across Lexington and the Piedmont Triad and spent countless hours processing interviews, physical evidence, and digital records to piece together what happened to Bunly.

First Wave of Charges
On December 17, 2024, detectives arrested three of Lam’s relatives on obstruction charges related to the case:

  • Van Ly Lam, 51, of Greensboro – three felony counts of obstruction of justice

  • Viencham Lam, 49, of Salisbury – five felony counts of obstruction of justice

  • Jonathan Lam, 30, of Salisbury – two felony counts of obstruction of justice

Murder Indictments This Week
On Monday, a Davidson County Grand Jury issued true bills of indictment for multiple suspects in connection with Bunly’s death.

  • Ricky Lam (currently held in Guilford County) is charged with first-degree murder and concealment of a body.

  • Van Lam was arrested in Archdale on charges of felony accessory after the fact to first-degree murder and concealment of a body.

  • Viencham Lam was arrested in Rowan County on charges of felony accessory after the fact to first-degree murder and concealment of a body.

  • Jonathan Lam was arrested in Lexington on charges of felony conspiracy after the fact to first-degree murder and concealment of a body.

All four are being held at the Davidson County Jail under $1 million secured bonds.

Search Warrant Executed
As these arrests were made, detectives—assisted by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office—executed a search warrant at 415 Shore Acres Road in Salisbury. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office also assisted. That investigation remains ongoing.
