Officials hope to see a rise in early voting this week

More than 5,400 Davidson County residents have already cast ballots in the March 3, 2026 primary election as early voting enters its final stretch.

According to the Davidson County Board of Elections, 5,426 ballots had been cast through Feb. 24 across five one-stop early voting sites. The Board of Elections office in Lexington continues to see the highest traffic, reporting 1,970 voters so far. Thomasville Library follows with 1,248 ballots cast, while Arcadia Community Center has recorded 814 voters, Midway Church 807 and Denton Library 587.

Daily turnout has remained steady throughout the early voting period. The highest single-day total so far was 737 voters on Feb. 20. Other strong days included 648 voters on Feb. 17 and 617 on the first day of early voting, Feb. 12.

Party data shows Republicans leading early participation with 3,078 ballots cast. Unaffiliated voters account for 1,418 ballots and Democrats 930. In North Carolina’s primary system, unaffiliated voters may choose which party ballot they wish to cast.

The early voting period has also included 33 same-day registrations and 13 provisional ballots, according to the Board’s report.

With early voting continuing through 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, many candidates are spending time at polling locations greeting voters and encouraging participation. Several campaigns have expressed hope that turnout will increase during the final days of early voting as Election Day approaches.

Voters may cast a ballot at any early voting site in the county during posted hours. Those who do not vote early will need to report to their assigned precinct on Election Day, Tuesday, March 3.
