Press Release: Lexington Baby Cafe receives grant award and recognition

February 17, 2026 Empower Breastfeeding Baby Café
Lexington received the 2025 Baby Café USA Access & Equity Award. Empower Breastfeeding Baby Café - Lexington has been recognized with the 2025 Baby Café USA Access & Equity Award for its exceptional outreach and support of WIC families in the community. The award was presented during the national Baby Café Chat on February 13, 2026. The recognition honors Baby Cafés that reached WIC families at rates of 50 percent or higher in 2025. In 2025, 79% of attendees visiting Empower Breastfeeding Baby Café - Lexington were WIC families, exceeding the national Baby Café average for the year.
“Opening the Baby Café in Lexington is a significant milestone in our mission to improve the quality of life in Davidson County. The clinical benefits associated with breastfeeding are well documented, however the value of the in-person support provided by lactation professionals and other breastfeeding mothers at Baby Café is immeasurable. This shared experience makes success achievable for more mothers in our community and improves health outcomes in Davidson County.” said Lillian Koontz, Davidson County Health Director.
Baby Café USA is a national nonprofit organization licensing and supporting 133 Baby Cafés across 25 states. Baby Cafés provide free, drop-in lactation support in welcoming community settings led by trained lactation professionals.
Empower Breastfeeding Baby Café - Lexington is hosted in partnership by the Davidson County WIC Program and the J. Smith Young YMCA and provides free breastfeeding support to families in Davidson County. Baby Café is open every Tuesday from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm and there are no fees associated with this service.
