Fire Tears Through Uptown Lexington Businesses, Crews Battle Flames Early Morning
Firefighters continue working to contain a large fire in Uptown Lexington after flames and water damage impacted multiple downtown businesses, including Shoto’s, the Candy Factory, Bagels and More and Main Street Pizza and Deli.
According to business owners on scene, the fire is believed to have started at Shoto’s before spreading to neighboring buildings. Officials have not yet confirmed an the cause, and the investigation remains ongoing.
For many in the community, the fire is especially heartbreaking, given each has a long-standing presence in Uptown Lexington and the relationships this historic area garnered national attention in Davidson County over the years. Business owners and community members gathered nearby during the early morning hours, many visibly emotional as they watched firefighters battle the flames.
Thick smoke and flames could be seen throughout the downtown area as emergency crews responded. Flames moved through portions of the buildings while water poured into neighboring businesses during firefighting efforts, leaving concerns about both fire and water damage throughout the block.
No injuries were reported.
As of 5 a.m., firefighters remained on scene actively working to put out hot spots and contain the fire. Multiple departments responded to assist in the overnight effort.
The full extent of the fire and water damage remains unclear.
