Lexington Senior High School Honors Legendary Coach Robert Hairston Following Retirement Announcement
After years of dedicated service, impactful leadership, and a lasting legacy of excellence, Lexington Senior High School proudly recognizes the retirement of longtime coach Robert Hairston from coaching.
Currently serving as Head Girls Basketball Coach at Lexington Senior High School, Coach Hairston leaves behind a program and school community deeply impacted by his leadership, mentorship, and commitment to student-athletes.
During his coaching career at Lexington Senior High School, Coach Hairston earned 162 total wins, becoming one of the most respected and successful coaches in school history. His leadership extended across both the boys and girls basketball programs, including his time as Head Men’s Basketball Coach from 2007 to 2013, where he secured 86 wins.
Coach Hairston led teams that consistently demonstrated excellence both on and off the court. His accomplishments include two Conference Championships and recognition as a Two-Time Conference Coach of the Year.
More importantly, Coach Hairston built a lasting legacy through his investment in students, helping young people develop discipline, accountability, leadership, and confidence that extended far beyond athletics.

Throughout his career, Coach Hairston emphasized teamwork, resilience, academic achievement, and character development. Former players, families, colleagues, and community members continue to recognize the positive impact he made on generations of student-athletes.
As he steps away from coaching, Coach Hairston leaves behind a standard of excellence that reflects the very best of Lexington Senior High School athletics and the broader Lexington City Schools community.
