Arts Davidson County Turns Up the Volume with New Listening Room Series
Organizers say the black box theater-style setting is part of what makes the Listening Room Series unique. The smaller venue creates a more personal experience, allowing audience members to sit close to the performers and hear the stories behind the songs. Rather than competing with distractions, the music takes center stage.
That vision comes to life Friday as Arts Davidson County launches its new Listening Room Series with an intimate evening featuring award-winning Nashville songwriter Kristy Jackson and local singer-songwriter Jack Riggs.
The concert serves as both a performance and a fundraiser, supporting Arts Davidson County's arts education and community arts programs while introducing what organizers hope will become a signature series for music lovers throughout the region.
"We are thrilled to launch this new series and create another way for our community to experience the arts," said Amanda Feliciano, executive director of Arts Davidson County. "The Listening Room Series will bring audiences closer to the music while supporting artists and expanding access to quality live performances in Davidson County."
Riggs said the event represents the beginning of a larger vision.
"We are excited to launch our Listening Room Series at Arts Davidson County this Friday," Riggs said. "Arts Davidson County plays a vital role in enriching the cultural life of our community, and through events like this we hope to generate the support needed to keep our doors open and our programs thriving throughout the county. This performance marks the beginning of what we envision as a vibrant and ongoing series of musical events that will bring exceptional artists and audiences together in an intimate listening-room setting."
Jackson brings an accomplished songwriting career to Lexington. She is best known for writing the Top 5 country hit "Take It Back," recorded by Reba McEntire. Her songs have been featured in film and television, and her patriotic ballad "Little Did She Know (She'd Kissed A Hero)" gained national attention following the September 11 attacks.
Joining her is Riggs, a respected regional performer whose authentic songwriting and engaging performances have earned him a loyal following throughout North Carolina.
Future Listening Room Series events are expected to feature artists from a variety of musical backgrounds while continuing to showcase talent from Davidson County and beyond. Arts Davidson County is also seeking sponsors and community partners to help support future concerts and expand arts programming.
