Breaking News: Thomasville mother jailed after 2-year-old overdoses

Emergency personnel responded to a distress call on Thursday, which led to the arrest of a mother after her two-year-old child experienced a drug overdose.

On Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 11:50 a.m., Thomasville officers and Davidson County EMS responded to 14 E. Guilford Street in reference to cardiac arrest. The reporting party, Brittany Parrish, told authorities she was sitting on the couch watching television with her two-year-old female child when she walked away for a few minutes. Upon her return, she found her daughter slumped over and her face was blue.

Davidson County EMS personnel recognized the symptoms of an overdose and administered a dosage of Narcan, which immediately revived the child. The child was transported to Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center where she was treated for testing positive for fentanyl and later released.

Davidson County Social Services was contacted and has placed the two-year-old child, along with her five-year-old brother, with a family member pending an investigation.

Thomasville officers located drug residue and paraphernalia inside the residence. Brittany Parrish, 33, of Thomasville, was arrested and charged with felonious child abuse. Parrish received a $15,000 secured bond and was placed in the Davidson County Jail Court date is set for June 12, 2024, in Lexington. This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges are pending.
