Lexington man arrested after home invasion

Lexington man arrested after home invasion

On Saturday, May 18 at 3:00 a.m. the Lexington Police Department responded to a reported burglary in progress at a residence located at 8 East 4th Street.

Arriving officers quickly gained information from victims and witnesses at the scene that an unknown person had broken into the residence while they were asleep. Victims also stated that the suspect brandished a handgun and attempted to force sex acts upon an adult victim inside the house where juveniles were also present. Officers also learned that the suspect had left the area in a dark truck as they were arriving on scene.

During this time, while gaining initial information, officers saw the suspect truck near the residence. Officers conducted a traffic stop and discovered the driver to be Brandon James Simmons, age 42, of Lexington.

Through further investigation, following the traffic stop, officers developed probable cause that Simmons was the person that had broken into the residence. During Simmons’ arrest officers seized a loaded handgun, multiple tablets of LSD, and drug paraphernalia.

Simmons was charged with the following: 1st Degree Burglary, assault by pointing a gun, assault on a female, attempted first degree forcible sex offense, false imprisonment, possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while impaired, no operators license, and carrying a concealed weapon. Simmons was held in the Davidson County Jail with no bond.

This incident appears to be a random act of violence. Simmons was not known to the victims in this case. It is currently unclear to investigators why Simmons chose this house to commit his crimes.

Due to the quick response, investigation, and apprehension of Simmons by LPD officers, a dangerous individual and a firearm were taken off the streets. LPD detectives and Special Victim’s Unit are continuing to follow up and assist with the investigation. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Lexington Crimestoppers at 336-243-2400.
