Press Release: Man Charged With Murder Following a Shooting at a Sheetz Store

Thomasville Police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at Sheetz, 1810 Liberty Dr., at approximately 6:24 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim outside the store who was pronounced deceased at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as Daryl Ellison, 55, of Thomasville, North Carolina.
Thomasville Police detectives responded and processed the scene, collecting evidence and conducting an investigation. Through investigative efforts, detectives determined that Leon Marcel Marsh, 50, of Lexington, North Carolina, was responsible for the shooting death of Mr. Ellison.
Mr. Marsh voluntarily turned himself in to the Lexington Police Department later that evening. He has been charged with one count of murder and is currently being held without bond at the Davidson County Jail. Mr. Marsh is scheduled to make his first appearance in Davidson County District Court on January 26, 2026.
