CrossMovement Dance Presents: A Dazzling "Nutcracker" Experience

Step into a world of pure Christmas magic as CrossMovement Dance proudly presents its spectacular production of "The Nutcracker." This beloved holiday tradition is brought to life through dazzling dance, festive music, and heartwarming storytelling, transforming the historic Smith Civic Center stage into a shimmering, sugar-spun landscape. It is more than just a performance; it is a community celebration of the arts, light, and the enduring power of dreams.

The curtain rises on young Clara, whose imagination is sparked by a gift from her mysterious godfather, Drosselmeyer. The heart of the story unfolds after midnight, as Clara witnesses her brave Nutcracker prince lead his toy soldiers in a fierce battle against the mischievous Mouse King. Triumphant, the prince leads Clara on a whimsical, breathtaking journey. Together, they glide through the ethereal Land of Snow, where dancers cascade across the stage like swirling flakes, performing the iconic waltz. Their journey culminates in the magical Kingdom of Sweets, ruled by the benevolent Sugar Plum Fairy. Here, dreams sparkle and the spirit of Christmas shines bright, as audiences are treated to a magnificent spectacle of international dances—from the Spanish chocolate and Arabian coffee to the Chinese tea and the lively Russian Trepak—all leading up to the grand finale.

This enchanting production requires immense dedication, showcasing the commitment of the Lexington community to the arts. The cast features 150 talented dancers, ranging in age from two-year-olds finding their rhythm to seasoned adults, all sharing the stage. Behind the scenes, countless dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to create the intricate costumes, elaborate sets, and flawless technical execution that make the show a success. This collaborative effort—where skill meets passion, and mentorship guides performance—is a true testament to the power of community. When you witness the vibrant tapestry of movement, you are seeing a local organization embodying its core philosophy: celebrating movement not just as an art form, but as a deep expression of life, echoing the profound inspiration, “In Him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28).
