Davidson County Seeks Public Input on Proposed Transportation Funding Application
Residents will have an opportunity later this month to weigh in on millions of dollars in proposed transportation funding that supports services for seniors, people with disabilities and others who rely on public transit throughout Davidson County.
The Davidson County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, on the county's proposed Fiscal Year 2028 Community Transportation Program Application. The application will be submitted to the North Carolina Department of Transportation by Oct. 2, 2026.
While state and federal regulations do not require a public hearing for the application, Davidson County is holding one to give residents the opportunity to review the proposal and provide feedback before it is submitted.
The Community Transportation Program helps coordinate transportation services across Davidson County and supports mobility options for residents who depend on public transportation for medical appointments, employment, nutrition programs and other essential services.
Transportation services are provided through the Davidson County Transportation System in partnership with Davidson County Senior Services, the Life Center of Davidson County and the Workshop of Davidson County. Davidson County Transportation and its third-party contractors operate the services.
The proposed application includes funding through several federal transportation programs, including Sections 5311, 5310, 5339 and 5307.
Among the requests included in the application are:
• Section 5311 Administrative: $394,339 with a local match of $59,151.
• Section 5310 Capital Purchase of Service: $700,000 with a local match of $70,000.
• Section 5307: $960,000 with a local match of $480,000.
The total funding request is $2,054,339 with an estimated local share of $609,151. County officials note that the local funding requirement is subject to state funding availability.
Beginning Aug. 14, the application will be available for public inspection at the Davidson County Transportation office, located at 945 N. Main St. in Lexington.
