Davidson County: Love Feast
The clergy of The Greater Lexington Area Minister’s Association and the Lexington Community Ministers Conference cordially invites you to a Lovefeast Service on Sunday, December 14th at 6:00 p.m. The service will be held at First Reformed United Church of Christ, 104 East Center Street, Lexington, NC 27292.
A Lovefeast is a candlelight service out of the Moravian Church tradition, usually held during the Advent (Christmas) season, that encourages fellowship, love, and peace among participants, with hopes to encourage the removal of all social barriers that divide us. This will be the first time that the two Lexington ministers’ conferences that historically were known as the white ministers’ conference (GLAMA) and the black ministers’ conference (LCMC) will come together to host an event for the Lexington community. Through their collaboration they hope to attract a diverse group of citizens to this service.
Whether one is of the Christian faith, or not, reflecting on the birth of Christ and what His coming symbolizes encourages us all to continue to hope for a better society that lifts the spirit of love and unity, more than hate and division. This is why hosting a Lovefeast is fitting, more now than ever, for the times in which we live.
This Lovefeast service will be an opportunity for all of us in the Lexington community to remove all barriers that divide us, and come together, regardless of race, denomination, politics, gender, ethnicity, class, etc., for one night of prayer, singing, lighting of candles, and partaking of traditional Moravian Lovefeast buns and coffee.
“The Lovefeast service is an opportunity for the community to recognize that we are all created in the image of God, set aside our differences, and work towards a more grace-filled and hopeful future for all.” – Reverend Kirk Tutterow, GLAMA President
“The Lovefeast service breaks down any racial and social barriers that has divided us in the past. As both white and black churches, including ministers, come together for one worshipful night in December, we hope that this would be the impetus that will continue to encourage our community to bridge all gaps, and work towards what Christ called the beloved community.” – Reverend Alan Suber, LCMC President
In addition to a time of worship and fellowship, we will also invite those who attend to contribute to our outreach initiative by giving a financial offering. Funds collected will be donated to Davidson Communities In Schools, to support their efforts to assist students and families in both Lexington City Schools and Davidson County Schools.
We hope that the entire Lexington community will join us for this special Lovefeast Service.
