Davidson County Republicans Select Steve Shook to Fill McClure Vacancy

The Davidson County Republican Party has selected Steve Shook to fill the vacancy on the Davidson County Board of Commissioners following the death of longtime Commissioner Fred McClure.

Party leaders met Tuesday night, Sept. 1, during a Special Executive Committee meeting to consider who should fill the seat. Shook was unanimously chosen to complete the current year of McClure’s term.

Shook is also expected to appear on the November ballot for election to the remaining two years of McClure’s term.

McClure’s death created a vacancy on the Davidson County Board of Commissioners and set in motion the process for filling the remainder of his term. Because McClure was elected as a Republican, the local Republican Party has a role in recommending his replacement under North Carolina law.

Shook’s selection now moves the process toward his appointment to the Davidson County Board of Commissioners.

Shook will have an opportunity to seek voter approval this fall. He was sixth in line during the most recent Republican Primary.
