Williams Transco is seeking approval to build a new high-pressure methane gas pipeline and expand a compressor station in Davidson County — a project that could pose risks to community safety, health, property rights, drinking water, and potentially raise electric bills.
State officials with the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) are formally reviewing Transco’s request to expand the compressor station near Lexington. The expansion would push methane gas through the pipeline at high pressure, releasing hazardous air pollutants known to harm heart and lung health. The surrounding community already faces significant air-quality challenges, and additional pollution could spread across the county.
DEQ officials will be in Lexington on Tuesday, Nov. 18 to hear directly from the public. Residents and advocates will also hold a press conference ahead of the hearing. Community members are encouraged to attend both events and speak directly to decision makers during the hearing.
