Person identified in the disappearance of Nancy Bunly arrested for alleged homicide in Guilford County

The man identified as a person of interest in the disappearance of Nancy Bunly in Lexington has been charged with murder of another missing woman in Guilford County.  

On Tuesday, officers with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a suspicious activity call on Blackberry Ridge Drive in High Point. According to the sheriff’s department, following multiple interviews and an extensive search, deputies located a crime scene and collected evidence.  

As a result of this investigation, Ricky Lamm, 40, was arrested in Davidson County on Sunday and charged with felony first-degree murder, felony concealment/failure to report a death and felony possession of a firearm by a felon.

Law enforcement stated these charges were related to the disappearance of Amber Marie Schimmelpfenning, 36, who was last seen on Sept. 9. Guilford County Sheriff’s Department said they could not locate her remains despite an extensive search.  

Lam was named a person of interest in the disappearance of Nancy Bunly on Sept. 23, 2024 in Lexington. According to the Lexington Police Department, Bunly was dating Lam at the time of her disappearance and was last seen leaving his apartment near Abbott’s Creek at Finch Park driving a black Honda Pilot with North Carolina plate number RBA-2896. 

In December, three of Lam’s family members were arrested and charged with obstruction of justice in connection with Bunly's disappearance. 

Van Ly Lam, 51, of Greensboro, was charged with three felony counts of obstruction of justice. Vienchan Lam, 49, of Salisbury, was charged with five felony counts of obstruction of justice and Jonathan Lam, 30, of Salisbury, was charged with two felony counts of obstruction of justice.  

 Ricky Lam, was charged in January with possession of a firearm by a felon. Authorities stated at the time his arrest was not directly related to Bunly's disappearance. Lam has a prior conviction for first-degree assault in Connecticut from 2003. 

After his arrest on Sunday, Lam is being held without bond at the Davidson County Jail. He was taken into custody for unrelated charges before being served with warrants from Guilford County for first-degree murder and other charges. 

The investigations into the disappearance of both women is ongoing.
