Five Displaced After Late-Night House Fire on Bruce Street

One occupant was treated at the scene for minor burns; no firefighters were injured.

LEXINGTON, N.C. — Two adults and three children were displaced by a house fire in the 300

block of Bruce Street late Saturday, Oct. 3. One occupant was treated at the scene by Davidson

County EMS for minor burns. No firefighters were injured.

The Lexington Fire Department was dispatched at 11:55 p.m., and the first crews arrived at

midnight to find the house burning heavily. All known occupants had gotten out before

firefighters arrived.

Crews attacked the fire and searched the house, confirming that no one else was inside.

Firefighters brought most of the fire under control within about 15 minutes of arriving. The fire

was officially declared under control at 12:52 a.m. Sunday, and the last crews cleared the scene

at 1:43 a.m.

LFD has completed its investigation and determined the fire was unintentional. It started with

food cooking on the stove.

Lexington Police Department officers cared for the injured occupant until EMS arrived and

assisted LFD with its investigation. The American Red Cross was called to assist the displaced

occupants.

Cooking is the leading cause of home fires in the United States, according to the National Fire

Protection Association. LFD recommends working smoke alarms in every home.
